How to Redact Sensitive Information in a PDF
Last updated: February 22, 2026
Redacting a PDF means permanently removing sensitive information — not just covering it with a black box that someone can copy-paste from underneath. OneClickPDF performs true redaction: it draws the redaction areas, then rasterizes the entire page so the original text is physically destroyed. And it all happens in your browser.
Step-by-Step Guide
Open the Redact PDF tool
Go to the Redact PDF page on OneClickPDF.
Upload your document
Drop your PDF onto the upload zone. It loads in a full-page editor with zoom controls.
Mark areas for redaction
Use Draw mode to click-and-drag redaction rectangles over sensitive content. Or use Find Text mode to search for specific words or phrases across all pages — matches are highlighted and you can selectively add them to the redaction list.
Apply redactions and download
Review your pending redactions in the sidebar (grouped by page). Remove any you don't want. When ready, click Apply. The tool permanently destroys the redacted content by rasterizing every page at 2x resolution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can redacted text be recovered?
What's the difference between redaction and covering text?
Can I redact a specific word across all pages?
Does my document go to any server?
True redaction is irreversible by design. Unlike simply drawing a black box over text (which many 'redaction' tools do), OneClickPDF rasterizes the entire page, making it physically impossible to recover the hidden content. For legal documents, FOIA requests, and compliance, this is the standard you need.
